This one day course is designed to give you a taste of some of the main printmaking processes we offer in the print studio. It will give you a broad overall view backed up with hands on practical experience making prints to take away with you. You will gain an understanding of how printmaking works in a busy studio, safely, with an introduction to the presses and the materials. Each technique can be followed up on a longer printmaking course if you wish, and this course will give you a good base from which to decide what to do next. Printmaking in a day is fun and informative and you will see how the different processes change the prints you make and allow you to explore printmaking by making some prints yourself.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is a taster course aimed at complete beginners. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.

Esther teaches printmaking and picture framing at City Lit. She studied Fine Art at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication and printmaking at City Lit and Morley. Her own practice combines photographic and hand drawn elements and is influenced by comics, music, the urban environment and popular culture. She has exhibited in the UK and Europe. Esther enjoys teaching students from different backgrounds and abilities and seeing what adult learners bring to the classroom. As an artist educator, she finds it rewarding to help students find their creative potential in a fun and stimulating environment.
