What is the course about?
In this course, we will explore the Alpes-Maritimes together and discover some hidden gems that you can find there. Not all of them - there are way too many to fit them all in a three-hour session - but some of my favourites. We will start on the coast and move back inland and up to reach the high mountain peaks.
What will we cover?
- The coast’s hidden gems
- The high country, its villages and valleys
- The treasures of the Mercantour national park.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Understand that if you travel to the Côte d’Azur, there is much more to it that the glitter of the famous seaside
- Appreciate the cultural, historical, and natural wealth this region has to offer
- Know where to go to fully enjoy this beautiful part of the world.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You should have an advanced level of French (Citylit French 4 or 5 level / B2 onwards), as the class will be delivered in French.
If you are not sure about your level, please contact Languages on languages@citylit.ac.uk or check our level assessment chart on: http://www.citylit.ac.uk/self-assess-your-level
Some additional documents will be available in English. Only a keen interest and a desire to discover new horizons is necessary.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
This is a short course so it will be a presentation mostly, where students’ participation will be actively encouraged. Those who may know some aspects of this region already will have the opportunity to share their opinion and knowledge with others. You will be provided with extra material to do some further reading/researching after the class.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
only a keen interest.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
another level 4/5 course at the City Lit. Ask your tutor for advice or contact languages on languages@citylit.ac.uk.
Bonjour! My name is Julie and I am from Nice, Côte d'azur. I have been teaching French in the UK since 2005 so it has been... a while. I started in Edinburgh, Scotland, where I graduated with an MCs in Language Teaching form the University of Edinburgh, and taught at Edinburgh Napier University and at the University of Edinburgh Life Long learning school. I then came to London where I started teaching at Citylit in 2011. I was also a French teacher at Queen Mary University of London for 7 seven years. I enjoy teaching languages and am very passionate to share and transmit my passion for my language. I make a point to create a relaxed atmosphere in my class, but I am very organised. So fear not! With me you will learn and have fun at the same time! In addition to my teaching, I work as an Administrtor for City LIt's Languages department (so you might speak to me on the phone!) and I have been occupying the position of Spanish Coordinator since June 2023. I hope to see you soon in class. A bientôt!
