What is the course about?
What will we cover?
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
get to know the teacher and other prospective students for our year long Littérature française contemporaine (LF511).
get a chance to experience typical classroom tasks and activities that characterise this course.
decide if this is a suitable course for your needs.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students should have a very good level of French (C1/C2) and an interest in history, culture, and society as well as in literature. They should also be able to read literary works in French, and to lead and participate in discussions in French. They should be able to express themselves fluently and spontaneously. They have a large vocabulary and can choose the appropriate expression to introduce their comments. They can produce clear, well-structured discourse without hesitation, and which shows controlled use of structures.
If you are not sure about your level, please contact Languages on languages@citylit.ac.uk or check our level assessment chart on: http://www.citylit.ac.uk/self-assess-your-level
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include translation of literary articles, analysis (comment and discussions) of specific literary texts. Students will also have the opportunity to write essays and to do presentations.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
no.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
LF511 French 5: littérature française contemporaine.
Bonjour! I have an MA in Literature, I qualified as a teacher in France before living abroad. I have been teaching French as a foreign language for the past 14 years to students of different age groups. I believe that, above all, learning should be a joy. I provide well-structured, clearly aimed lessons with authentic resources to accommodate various learning profiles and learning preferences. I understand the need for students to build their confidence in a relaxed learning atmosphere, with the right level of challenge, guided by constructive feedback. I encourage my students to carry on learning independently, for e.g. with quality online resources. I like to feel intellectually stimulated. Hopefully, my many interests provide the variety and depth to keep my students interested!
