What is the course about?

On this course you will learn three maths concepts:
(i) Numbers, (ii) Measures, shapes and space and (iii) Handling data.
By the end of this course, you will sit an exam to get your Entry level 3 Functional Skills qualification. Once you have passed this you can progress towards the Functional Skills level 1 Maths course.

What will we cover?

We will cover a wide range of topics such as: numbers, different ways of working out, understanding use of maths in daily life and how you can improve your reading skills. During these discussions and topics, we will focus on:

1.Using numbers and the number system – whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
2.Using common measures, shape, and space
3.Handling information and data.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

1. Use given mathematical information including numbers, symbols, simple diagrams, and charts
2. Recognise, understand, and use simple mathematical terms appropriate to Entry Level 3
3. Use the methods given above to produce, check and present results that make sense to an appropriate level of accuracy
4. Present results with appropriate and reasoned explanation using numbers, measures, simple diagrams, charts, and symbols appropriate to Entry Level 3.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is an accredited Maths Entry level 3 which will allow you to progress to Functional skills level 1 once completed. This qualification will help you to prepare further learning or training and has the flexibility to be applied in a variety of contexts including preparing you for employment, supporting you in the workplace or to encourage enthusiasm and develop confidence in learning.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will learn in a supportive and welcoming environment with an emphasis on discovering how to complete tasks, with guidance from the tutor. You will work on your own and with other students on different tasks, so you are always practising important in-demand life and work skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, prioritising, negotiating, collaborating and independence. You will learn in a step-by-step manner so you can complete challenging tasks in enjoyable and relaxing ways. Your tutor will also work with you individually, so you know how to improve and how to work in a way that improves your learning. You will need to do work outside the classroom and use Google Classroom to help you.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a folder to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and worksheets.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

When you have successfully completed the Entry level 3 you will be able to progress to the Functional Skills level 1 Maths or any course/s that will help you to continue your journey.
