What is the course about?

This one day CPD workshop is designed for existing massage therapists who wish to learn a new massage technique, using Gua Sha tools.

GUA means scraping. SHA means red. Using a ‘tool’, the practitioner scrapes over the skin causing redness to appear in the area.
Gua Sha is intended to address stagnant energy, called chi, in the body. Studies show that when done correctly, Gua Sha can release chemicals that improve blood flow, lessen toxins and promote healing in the area. This Gua Sha body course will teach you to perform the perfect Gua Sha techniques to heighten your client’s treatments.

What will we cover?

- History of GUA SHA
- Different tools to use
- Common conditions to be treated
- Health benefits of Gua Sha body massage
- Gua Sha techniques & application.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Describe Gua Sha and it’s history
- Have a knowledge of the different tools you can use
- Describe the health benefits of Gua Sha body massage
- Perform Gua Sha massage and techniques.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a CPD certificate.
You will need to have completed a Level 3 qualification in Massage, including anatomy and physiology.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Theory will be taught but then the workshop will be mainly practical In content, with demonstrations and working in pairs.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No materials needed. Handouts will be provided.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

You may decide to progress to other massage courses, such as Indian Head massage or facial massage, such as Deep Plump and Glow facial to expand your treatment portfolio for your clients.

Mark Woollard

I joined this marvellous industry back in 2004 when I started my training in Swedish massage. At first I was doing it as my 'back up' career as I wanted to be an actor. But before I knew it, I'd fallen in love with holistic therapy and well-being and now it has been my full time career for almost twenty years! After catching 'the bug', I trained in Indian head massage, reflexology, facials, reiki, deep tissue, hot stone and lymphatic drainage massage. The list goes on! I keep adding new qualifications to my extensive repertoire every year as I think its important not to become stagnant and to keep learning. As the old adage goes, "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!" And there's nothing more powerful than complementary medicine. As well as teaching, I currently run my own mobile therapy business and it makes me feel old that I've been treating some of my clients for over fifteen years. I love nothing more than seeing the joy on a client's face after every single treatment. I can't wait to see you on a course in the future. I just love passing on my knowledge and passion to the therapists of the future!
