What is the course about?
This course will give an understanding of relief printing and monoprinting and how to print by hand. It will be useful for those who wish to print at home without the use of expensive equipment or also as an introduction to printmaking for those who may want to continue to other courses.
What will we cover?
We will be looking at different monoprinting and relief printing methods to easily create printed images by hand. We will also explore various ways of printing in colour and monochrome.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Use various monoprint methods to explore line, tone & texture
Use linocut & other simple relief printing methods
Develop images by exploring colour printing techniques
Look at different papers and inks to use for hand printing.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is suitable for all levels. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Through demonstrations, handouts and practical assignments, individual tutoring and group discussion.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Basic materials are provided.
It is useful to bring in source material eg sketchbooks, drawings or photographs.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
There are many printmaking courses that follow on from the techniques you will be trying - your tutor will be able to advise you if you need further help.
