We offer daytime, evening and weekend courses, both short and long. Our tutors are experts in their fields and experienced educators. Tutors share their knowledge and passion for Film through presentations, screenings, interactive discussion, analysis, and other activities.

  1. Nostalgia Cinema: the return of the 50s and 80s

    In the 1970s, nostalgia became commercialised. Most notably, cinema looked to the fifties for material. This cinematic version of the era has a recognisable aesthetic. This course looks at how and why the past is recalled in cinema. Additionally, the course discusses the theory of nostalgia and how it changed throughout the 20th century.

  2. An Introduction to the American Horror Film

    Once a minor genre, the American horror film is now a major presence in popular cinema. This course explores its history and development from the late silent and early sound eras to the present day, taking in its key films, their themes, and the studios and filmmakers behind the films, while also considering a range of critical responses and ways of conceptualising the American horror film.

  3. The Golden Age of British TV: 1955 - 1980;

    This course explores a golden age in British television which ran from the 1950s until the early 1980s, when acclaimed anthology series appeared, which came to attract both critical and popular praise. This included series such as Play for Today and plays such as Cathy Come Home (1966) and Rumpole of the Baily (1975). The course will reflect on the form of these anthology plays, why many thought they were part of a golden age of British television and why they eventually disappeared.
