What is the course about?

This 2-day workshop is all about styling for an interior and recording and enhancing your ideas digitally. You will learn about the elements of interior styling and key interior trends with reference to periods and styles. You will learn to use colour, texture, and materials and the effects they can have on the look and feel of a space. The course will also include interior styling photography and you will have a go at styling products for an interior photo shoot. You will also learn how to enhance your images by using selections, filters and adjustments in Photoshop.

- Describe and apply a design process
- Create an idea for a design scheme and plan a digital concept board using photoshop
- Use appropriate terminology to explain interior trends, periods and styles and colour choices
- Apply decorative styles and styling principles to a styling project - Where to source objects and materials for your project
- Set up a photographic shoot with your smartphone
- Enhance your images in Photoshops
- Have expert feedback on your personal or professional styling projects.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a beginners course but is also invaluable for Interior designers who wish to refresh their skills and develop their portfolio.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught using presentations, demonstrations, practical work, individual and group tutoring, and group discussion. You will be expected to do some work outside of the class, such as sourcing objects and materials for your styling project.

Equipment and resources will be provided for use in the class.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Now you’ve learned how to style an Interior you can learn how to create 3D digital presentations of your work on our range of courses in SketchUp, Vectorworks and AutoCAD. You can also develop your digital 2Ddesign skills further with our courses in Photoshop and Illustrator.

Alya Rizvi

Alya Rizvi trained as an architect and came to academic life after a period in industry. Alya worked initially in an architects' firm that specialized in architectural conservation of some of the country's historic buildings, including Eton College in Windsor. She later changed focus and worked for an interior design practice where she helped design the interiors for leading hotel chains including the Hilton and the Mercure in Dubai. Teaching has always formed part of Alya’s practice and she has taught Interior Design and Architecture at universities and further education colleges in the United Kingdom for the past 20 years. During that time her students have progressed to some of the UK's leading design practices or have taken advanced qualifications at top universities in England and Scotland.
