Irish 2 lower: module 1

What is the course about?

Building on foundations set in Irish beginners, students will revise beginner level language before continuing to build on their emerging communicative abilities in Irish.

What will we cover?

Topics: Things you like doing, talking about going out and buying tickets for an event, talking about what you've done in the past, talking about your family and talking about shopping.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- express likes and dislikes
- talk about event using the future tense
- talk about what you have done in the past
- buy items while shopping
- use numbers and talk about time with increased confidence

Please note that outcomes may change depending on pace and particular interests of class.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for near beginners – students should have completed Irish Gaelic beginners modules 1/2/3 or have equivalent knowledge of the language. If you are a speaker of Irish who is coming back to the language after a while it may also be suitable.

For continuing students, this course follows on from Irish Gaelic Beginners, module 3.

Choose a level 2 lower course if you can:

- hold a simple conversation,
- ask and answer simple questions on a variety of everyday topics (i.e., personal details, shopping, directions, time, and numbers),
- follow short, simple written directions and instructions (e.g., go from X to Y)
- read and write short sentences on a variety of everyday topics (e.g., personal introduction, shopping lists, directions, timetables, numbers, etc)
- use basic verbal forms to talk about the present and the past.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents in English. It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
