What is the course about?
This stand-alone course aims to provide students with an introduction to the Irish language. Enjoy communicating using basic Irish in practical situations and gain an insight into Irish culture.
What will we cover?
This course gives students the opportunity to develop their speaking and listening skills. It will cover Irish elementary grammar, spelling system, vocabulary and socio-cultural elements of the language.
Topics include: greeting and introcutions, exchanging basic personal information, shopping and using numbers in context, talking about your routine and expressing likes and dislikes.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Alphabet & Pronunciation: De-code the Irish writing system and discover the sounds of Irish
- use a range of basic vocabulary: Build a strong foundation with essential words and phrases
- understand some grammar fundamentals of Irish: understand the structure of Irish sentences
- start speaking: you'll be able to speak and listen in basic, everyday situations
- understand more about Irish and Ireland: gain an insight into traditions and customs of the Irish-speaking world
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is for complete beginners.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
