This course has slightly longer lesson times, so you can begin your Italian learning journey with more confidence, and hopefully feel inspired to explore Italy and all that it has to offer. The course will introduce new structures and vocabulary gradually. You will build up your confidence in all four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing), with an emphasis on speaking and listening.
What will we cover?
Based on Chapters 1-4 of Nuovo Espresso 1 (Alma Edizioni - Italian version)
Topics: greetings; introductions; alphabet and spelling; numbers; the time; say how you are; the restaurant; leisure activities; likes and dislikes.
Grammar: the verbs to be, to have and to go; the formal and informal way of addressing someone; the present tense; forming negative sentences.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
-greet people -introduce yourself -exchange personal information (name, nationality, job etc) -tell the time -order food at a restaurant -talk about leisure activities -express likes and dislikes.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Stage 1 module 1 course - no previous knowledge of Italian required.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material. Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
We also offer language support sessions for beginner students giving them an opportunity to dispel doubts about the language. These are delivered entirely in English and are ideal for those aspects of the language or language learning that beginner students tend to find challenging. Places can only be booked once you have started the course. For more information, please ask your tutor.
