What is the course about?

You will learn to communicate more fully and fluently in a wider range of everyday situations and conversations. You will also strengthen the grammar points you have already studied previously.

What will we cover?

Topics: directions; travel arrangements; visiting friends or relatives and asking for permission/making requests

Language points: using tekudasai for directions; verbs to express transportation (arrive, depart etc.); temoiidesuka to ask for permission or to ask not to do something; expressions of time; understand Kanji and compounds in context.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Understand and give directions (e.g. to a taxi driver)
- Ask if you can do something at someone’s house or in a shop
- Grant or refuse permission and give a reason for doing so
- Ask and give information about travel arrangements (travel times, length of stay etc.).

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have completed Japanese 2 lower: module 2 or have studied for approaching 2 years and be able to have simple conversations on basic everyday topics as well be familiar with Hiragana and Katakana.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
