What is the course about?
On this course, you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge of sentence structures and grammatical functions to understand more advanced and complex expressions. You will also have the opportunity to improve your speaking and listening skills as well as consolidate your reading and writing skills to enable you to use your Japanese in various situations in real life.
What will we cover?
Reporting difficulties, expression of beliefs, inferences, certainties, impressions and describing situations which are contrary to expectations.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Express certainty "hazu"
- Express beliefs and expectations based on information "rashi"
- Express impressions using "rashi"
- Conveying information gained elsewhere “sou” (review)
- Express ideas using “noni”
- Make a complaint: usage of “n desu” (review)
- Make excuses
- Describe appearances and impressions
- Understand the various compound words using kanji
- Use polite and casual speech: verbs for giving, demonstratives.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You should have studied Japanese for at least 5 years.
Students should be able to read and write Hiragana and Katakana as well as have some knowledge of Kanji (JLPT N4 level or above).
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays, games and discussions of topics. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual materials.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
