What is the course about?

The course is designed to consolidate and deepen your knowledge of Latin grammar, preparing you to read and discuss unadapted texts. Details of the resources used in this course can be found here.

What will we cover?

We will revise and deepen your knowledge of complex grammar. We will begin analysing and translating passages from Latin authors.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

  • demonstrate a solid knowledge of complex grammar
  • read and translate Latin texts with fluency and confidence
  • analyse and render indirect speech in extended passages.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for those who have studied Latin for approximately 4 years or have an equivalent knowledge (A Level or first year of a university course). As this course is taught in English, please read the outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support with your English skills to help you take part fully in this class.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course consists of grammar instructions, grammar exercises and translation with a high level of student interaction (individual, pair and group work). Students are expected to do the homework regularly, check the material uploaded on Google Classroom and participate in oral classroom activities. Homework will require approx. 2-3 hours per week.
