Life drawing: a contemporary approach

This course introduces exciting contemporary approaches to life drawing using a variety of processes including using wire to draw with, clayslip for mark-making and plaster. You will be encouraged to explore creative and imaginative approaches in your response to the life model. Suitable for all levels but some previous drawing experience an advantage.

What is the course about?

The course will explore a variety of contemporary, experimental drawing approaches and processes with a range of materials to expand and sharpen your personal visual vocabulary. You'll be encouraged to embrace self-expression and the Imagination, with session content contextualised by looking at the work of exciting contemporary artists.

What will we cover?

The course will explore a variety of approaches to the life model
Mark-making to convey atmosphere
Dynamic drawing techniques
Quick sketching of figure in movement
Mixed-media materials and techniques eg clayslip, wire-drawing etc
Collaborative work
How to explore the notion of 'making mistakes' and 'letting go of control'.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Use a variety of mark-making techniques
Use a range of mixed-media processes
Make a personal response to the life model
Make use of strategies employed by a variety of contemporary artists.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suitable for all levels but some previous drawing experience would be an advantage.

Practical tasks, demonstration, 1:1 support and group discussion.
