What is the course about?

Starting a new business isn’t easy, and success is never guaranteed, but this course will help you to increase your chances by learning from current professional photographers/ business owners. We’ll help you structure a business plan and develop marketing strategies. You’ll learn how to generate new business and retain it, grow in your marketplace and adapt to ever changing business environment. We’ll show you how to relate professionally to your potential clients and how to develop mutually beneficial business to business relationships.

Session 1
Course introduction, selecting equipment, managing client expectations, exploration of different photographic styles used in wedding photography.

Session 2
The contract, pre-wedding planning, a formula for the wedding day shoot, group shot planning.

Session 3
How to charge, taxation and simple book-keeping, marketing and advertising.

Session 4
Posing the bride and groom, must-have shot-list, conclusion and destination.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Select the correct photographic equipment that meets the needs of a wedding photographer
- Pre-plan a wedding day shoot and manage your clients expectations
- Understand the legal requirement and responsibilities including contracts, taxation, insurance and bookkeeping
- Understand good posing practise for the wedding party including formal group shots.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a course for people wishing to start their own business or who have an interest in the business of photography.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught using a range of techniques including small group discussions, lectures, demonstrations, group and individual support and hand-outs. We use Google Classroom to share course materials.
