What is the course about?
Broaden your understanding of visual language, and focus on particular areas in painting in more depth. Develop a greater proficiency in the use of oil or acrylic paint and become familiar with a varied range of techniques and their appropriate applications.
What will we cover?
There will be a variety of painting exercises and projects aimed at developing your painting skills and understanding of painting. Projects will vary according to the strengths and interests of each course tutor, however the underlying core elements will not differ.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
• Apply painting techniques and processes with increased confidence.
• Use formal elements, such as tone, composition and colour effectively.
• Recognise of the effects and potential of surface quality and texture in an image.
• Reflect on the progress of your work.
• Begin to identify areas of interest within your work for further development.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is an improvers/intermediate level course, not recommended for beginners. You should have some painting experience and it is helpful to have completed a 'Painting 1' or 'Introduction to painting' course.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
- Individual and group tutoring
- Group discussion
- Demonstrations
- Visual presentations and handouts
