What is the course about?

The course aims to acquaint students with the language related to a variety of subjects such as greetings, pleasantries, introducing oneself, describing people, talking about one's family.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

introduce yourself, talk about hobbies and describe people.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Introduce yourself
- talk about your interests, food and hobby
- describe events happening now
- describe people (including occupation, nationality, etc.)
- talk about your family.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is designed for students who have never studied Polish or have had only a limited exposure to the language but wish to start learning in a more structured way.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of number for daily activities (e.g using money, telling the time, etc).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Materials will be provided by the tutor and posted on google classroom.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

If there is enough demand, we will open: Polish beginners: module 2. Please enrol as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Barbara Wojtczak

Barbara, a lecturer in Polish, holds an MA in opera studies and a teaching certificate in Polish pedagogy. A lover of music and acting, Barbara uses those tools during the lessons to make the process of learning easier and more fun. Barbara is a native Polish speaker with 10 years of experience and teaches all levels of proficiency. She has lectured at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, King's College London, and Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College.
