This course is an introduction to the theories and principles of reflexology. You will learn how to relax and revitalise a person by practising some reflexology techniques on hands and feet.
What will we cover?
- Benefits of reflexology and when it might be advisable to avoid a treatment - Basic history of reflexology - Relationship between the feet and the rest of the body - Massaging the feet - practical work in pairs.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Identify some common reflexology points on the feet and hands - State some reasons why a person would not be able to receive a reflexology treatment - Safely give a basic foot massage to another person - Treat yourself with some basic hand reflexology points for stress relief.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Introductory level - no previous knowledge required. You are required to read and write short sentences, follow verbal instructions and extract information from handouts.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
- Presentation and Lecture - Group discussions and pair work - Questions and answers - Practical work in pairs – massaging the feet or hands.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
All relevant theory information will be provided on handouts. Please bring the following items: powder, wet wipes, 2 plasters, a bath towel and some writing materials.

ITEC Holistic Massage Diploma or ITEC Diploma in Complementary Therapies and other massage based courses e.g. Aromatherapy.
Jan has been a practising therapist for over fifteen years, and a tutor for ten years. She practises nutrition, holistic massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, Indian head massage, Thai yoga massage, Japanese facial rejuvenation and pregnancy massage. She currently teaches massage, reflexology, manual lymphatic drainage, facials, stone therapy, nutrition, and anatomy and physiology courses at City Lit and other London colleges. Jan is passionate about health and wellbeing. In her spare time, she enjoys increasing her holistic knowledge, cooking, playing tennis, travelling and theatre.
