What is the course about?
The course aims to help students to activate their passive knowledge of German and to practise their spoken German.
What will we cover?
Topics might include: Personal details, daily work and home life, education systems, career plans and general plans for the future, hobbies, talking about different cities and areas in Germany, Switzerland and Austria and current topics.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- describe your daily work and home life (reflexive verbs: sich treffen)
- give reasons for learning languages (conjunctions dass, weil, obwohl)
- describe your impressions of education and school life and compare different education systems (perfect tense)
- discuss plans for the future
- speak about your interests and hobbies
- speak about German cities or regions
- speak about current topics
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students should have studied German for about two years recently or have completed the first term of this course. This course is A2.2 in the European framework.
For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart at the start of the languages section of our course guide or on our website.
It is also essential that you have some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation. It would be helpful if you had knowledge of more intermediate grammar terminology such as: dative, accusative, subordinate and main clause.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Based on the coursebook Willkommen 2, German intermediate course and the accompanying Activity Book. Each course will use excerpts from 2 chapters of this coursebook as well as tutor's own materials.
