What is the course about?
This course aims to increase your fluency in everyday topics and widen your knowledge of grammatical structures and vocabulary.
What will we cover?
Topics: travels, accommodation, customs and traditions and the world of work
Grammar: cardinal and ordinal numbers, compound conjunctions, modal verbs and expressions and adjectival and other pronouns.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- use numbers in a variety of ways;
- give detailed reasons and justifications for choices;
- ask a range of questions; and
- understand a range of professional vocabulary.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You should have completed a two-year course and 'Russian 3 module 2' or have an equivalent knowledge of the language (i.e. be in your 4th year of studying Russian).
This course is suitable if you can already:
- take part in a simple conversation on a variety of everyday topics (e.g., weather, family, interests, times of working day, locations).
- give and justify your opinions and ideas,
- write with a good degree of accuracy (e.g., giving an account of educational background, job, interests, etc),
- express hypothetical sentences and doubt.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
The course is based on the communicative approach:
- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate
Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.
