What is the course about?

This workshop offers complete beginners the opportunity to meet the characters of the Russian (Cyrillic) alphabet and enable them both to read words printed in the language as well as handwrite their own name and simple words and phrases.

What will we cover?

Using an interactive approach, the course is designed so that learners will encounter the names of familiar and less familiar people, places and events in Russian history, learning key facts about them en route and enhancing their overall knowledge of the nation and its culture.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Read words printed in Cyrillic
- Handwrite their own name in Cyrillic
- Handwrite simple words and phrases in Cyrillic
- Key facts about Russian culture.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is aimed to completely beginners. No previous knowledge of the language is required.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Marina has over 20 years experience as a Russian teacher with a proven record of teaching, supporting, coaching and training students to achieve their goals. Marina is passionate about Russian culture and uses it to bring the curriculum alive. She often shares and discusses words' etymology, customs and traditions with the students and likes to draw on Russian songs in her lessons to enliven pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar practice.
