What is the course about?
You will work under the guidance of a highly experienced screen actor and tutor, to extend yours skills in screen acting. You will combine work on script and character, with the technical requirements for screen, to extend your knowledge and build confidence when acting for the camera. Your final scene will be directed and shot for review at the end of the course in our dedicated TV and Radio studio.

Please note that acting classes by their very nature can involve exercises and the exploration of material that some students may find challenging.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
• Approach a script more confidently
• Play character and perform a scene with greater truth to camera
• Adhere to the technical discipline required for acting on screen.
• Work effectively with the director and fellow actors.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students will need to have completed the screen acting beginners course, or be familiar with the inherent disciplines such as ‘hitting marks’ and ‘continuity’. However, if you have undertaken lots of acting courses or have some formal on set experience, then this course might be suitable for you; if you are unsure, check your level with the drama department before enrolling.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback.
• Communicate clearly in discussion and drama practice.
• Read and respond to a variety of text.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
In pairs and small groups.
As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You
are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.
Your recordings may be made available via Google Classroom for your review. The footage is for training and assessment purposes only and recordings will not be shared at the end of this course. The footage will be wiped from our drive shortly after the course is completed, in line with City Lit privacy policies and current data regulations.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Comfortable clothing should be worn. Bring a notebook and pen.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Continue to build confidence with the next course of Screen Acting: improvers. Depending on your starting point and if you have a lot of acting experience, it may be possible to progress to advanced screen on a Monday evening. Discuss this with your tutor before progressing or contact the drama dept for further advice. You may also want to consider a course in Stanislavski and or Method Acting.
