What is the course about?

Realise your personal project in 3D. Come with an idea and you will be supported through your making to a final piece. This course is for people who have already attended a sculpture course at City Lit and would like more time to develop and finish the work from that course.

What will we cover?

The course will endeavour to respond to the individual demands of the projects in hand and with that in mind will cover a variety of topics, processes and concepts.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

You will learn how to bring a three-dimensional sculptural project to fruition.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for people who have already attended a sculpture course at City Lit and would like more time to develop and finish the work from that course.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Students are expected to bring a project and will be taught on a one-to-one basis. Although there may be demonstrations that are relevant to more than one student.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The use of workshop tools, consumables and basic materials are supplied. As stated above students are expected to bring their own project to complete.

You must wear sturdy shoes, that cover the whole foot (no open toe). Please also wear old working clothes or bring overalls.

Please be advised - Being near the plasma cutter while it is in use can be dangerous to anyone with a pacemaker. If you have a pacemaker, for your own safety, it is not possible to use the plasma cutter or to be in the room when another student is using the plasma cutter. If this affects you, please contact the sculpture department by emailing visualarts@citylit.ac.uk before enrolling, to discuss this further.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

The City Lit sculpture department offers a wide range of exciting courses that will allow you to progress from beginner to advanced and learn a range of techniques. After this course you may wish to join a similar course to develop your skills further or try something completely different. We offer courses in prop making, metal, clay, carving in stone and wood, mould making and casting, and much more! Alternatively, you may wish to progress onto the year-long City Lit Sculpture course VU841, which helps you to build your own individual sculpture practice.

We are constantly adding new courses. Please ask your tutor for advice or browse the City Lit website for inspiration. It is also possible to contact our visual arts team by emailing visualarts@citylit.ac.uk, or calling 0203 880 2415 Monday - Friday, 10am - 5pm.
