What is the course about?
This short course is geared towards stylistic mastery and solo performance.
What will we cover?
- maintain and develop your vocal technique and presentation skills
- solo singing of jazz repertoire including intention and embodiment of lyrics and message of the song
- study of arrangements of jazz standards.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- source, adapt and learn appropriate jazz repertoire
- sing solo to your class and develop confidence and skills to take your singing into the real world
- communicate effectively with the accompanist/band
- understand your range and work out suitable keys for your songs.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You are expected to have completed advanced level jazz singing courses. Otherwise you should demonstrate at audition equivalent jazz experience and ability. You will have a good understanding of this music, and a sound singing technique.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Warm up together and technical exercises. Solo performance with developmental feedback from your tutor and peers. Sharing ideas and good practice. Your work outside of class is to select and prepare your songs week by week.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You will need to buy or acquire music/charts for your chosen songs.
