What is the course about?

In this thought-provoking course, we delve into the rich history of Black people in Latin America, examining their experiences within the contexts of slavery, colonialism, and their enduring consequences in present-day societies. We focus on exploring critical phenomena such as marronage (maroon communities) and the continued legacy of resistance against power hierarchies. By tracing the connections between the past and the present, we analyze various aspects of Black cultural expressions and intellectual production, evaluating them through critical lenses considering social, political, and historical contexts.
