What is the course about?
To enable students to improve their fluency and comprehension through discussions on a wide variety of topics and to expand their vocabulary and to broaden students' knowledge of Spanish and Latin American cultures.
What will we cover?
Discussion of different topics: media, leisure, environment, work, education, Spanish/Latin American cultures.
Grammar: Concessive clauses, expressions to rephrase, different uses of the subjunctive, position of pronouns, pluperfect of subjunctive.
The course will follow news in the Spanish media. There will be debates, role-play and discussions on topics of special interest to the students (cultural, social and political).
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- be more confident in speaking Spanish
- express opinions and ideas by using a wider range of vocabulary
- extract specific information when listening to dialogues
- extract detailed information from newspaper articles.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Students should have completed at least 5 years of Spanish.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

LS521 Spanish 5: module 2 or other courses at level 5 + workshops at level 4/5. Please enrol on the next module as soon as possible as spaces cannot be guaranteed.
