What is the course about?
This lively course will give you the opportunity to revise and consolidate the language structures learnt this year (beginners modules 1 and 2 only). You will be able to communicate more fully and fluently on a wider range of topical issues and everyday situations. We will focus on developing your listening and speaking skills.
What will we cover?
Topics: personal details, family, physical description, free time, likes and dislikes, ordering in a bar, buying in shops, describing places teling the time.
Grammar: present tense (regular, irregular and reflexive verbs), verb "gustar", verbs "ser/estar/hay/tener".
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- give and ask information about yourself and others
- speak about your experiences
- express likes and dislikes
- talk about everyday activities
- describe your city
- tell the time.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
Suitable if you have completed Spanish beginners: module 2 or have an equivalent knowledge of the language (two terms of study). This is a revision course so students will revise and consolidate the main points of elementary Spanish. You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.
For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart at the start of the languages section of our course guide or at http://www.citylit.ac.uk/self-assess-your-level.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
The course is based on units 4 & 8 of Nos Vemos Hoy 1 (Campus Difusión, ISBN 9788419236319 - Hybrid edition/edición hibrida) + the tutor’s own resources.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
Any Spanish beginners: module 3 in September.
