What is the course about?

This lively course will give you the opportunity to revise and consolidate the language structures learnt this year. You will be able to communicate more fully and fluently on a wider range of topical issues and everyday situations. We will focus on developing your listening and speaking skills.

This course will be delivered online and in person, and will involve tutor presentation and class discussion. Student preparation and homework outside class times is strongly encouraged. To fully participate in this online class you will need:
- An email address
- A reliable internet connection
- A computer/laptop/tablet with a fully updated browser (preferably google chrome). Your device will need a microphone, and preferably a camera.

What will we cover?

Topics: personal details, family, physical description, free time, likes and dislikes, public places, daily routine, past events.

Grammar: present tense (regular, irregular and reflexive verbs), verb "gustar", verbs "ser/estar/hay/tener", past tense.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- give and ask information about yourself and others
- speak about your experiences
- express likes and dislikes
- talk about everyday activities
- describe events in the past.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Suitable if you have completed Spanish 1: module 3 or have an equivalent knowledge of the language (one year's study). This is a revision course so students will revise and consolidate the main points of elementary Spanish.

You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents, in English. You will need to be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time, using the 24 hour clock, reading timetables). It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and conjugation.
For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart at the start of the languages section of our course guide or at http://www.citylit.ac.uk/self-assess-your-level.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

ONE INDEPENDENT STUDY UNIT (to be completed by the Thursday of the week starting on the 4th of December):
The independent study unit requires you to complete online activities at your own pace and allows you to receive feedback and guidance from the tutor. The tutor will review your work and provide some (online) feedback before the following (face to face) lessons and will use your work to plan the following lessons more efficiently.

The independent study unit is therefore as important as the face to face classes.

THREE FACE TO FACE LESSONS (Monday 11th, Wednesday 13th and Friday 15th of December):
These lessons will allow you to revise material/areas of difficulty that the tutor will have identified based on the work you completed in the independent study unit. You will have opportunities to ask questions, clarify doubts and request advice about further study.

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The course is based on the tutor’s own resources.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Any or our Spanish 2 lower: module 1 in January.
