What is the course about?
This course is a continuation of the beginners Swedish course building upon and expanding basic Swedish conversational skills as well as increasing knowledge of Swedish culture.
What will we cover?
Topics: Things you like doing, talking about going out and buying tickets for an event, talking about what you've done in the past, talking about your family and talking about shopping
Grammar:
- future tense, pronouns, adjectives, verbs in the past, adverbs of frequency and nouns
There will be a particular focus this term on pronunciation including: dialectal differences, sentence and word stress, long and short vowels.
What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
- express likes and dislikes
- talk about event using the future tense
- buy tickets for an event
- talk about what you have done in the past
- buy items while shopping
Grammar:
- use basic future tense
- use basic past tense
- use more adjectives and nouns accuretely
- use basic pronouns
- use adverbs of frequency to give more details information.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is for students who have actively studied Swedish for 1 year recently. Students will revise basic Swedish grammar in communicative contexts before progressing onto A2 level language.
Students who haven't studied a full beginners' course with City Lit are very welcome to join. If you need advice and guidance on deciding whether your current level or experience is suitable for this course, please get in touch with us by emailing languages@citylit.ac.uk
You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and explanations, as well as read course documents in English.It would also be helpful if you had some knowledge of basic grammar terminology such as: a verb, a noun and subject/object.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.
