This ten week course provides an introduction to Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan as practiced by the Wu family, from its origins in the Forbidden City of Ching dynasty China to this day. It will enable you to build the foundations of what is for some a lifetime of practice and begin to experience the many benefits that this practice brings.

What is the course about?

This course is an introduction to Wu family Tai Chi Chuan and you will learn various movements and techniques from the beginners syllabus which train balance, coordination, flexibilty and mental clarity.

What will we cover?

The course will cover Wu Style basic requirements, the first section of the Wu family standard form, balance training and loosening exercises, as well as postural work and basic breathing techniques.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Perform the first 14 movements of the Wu family hand form.
- Demonstrate postural basic requirements.
- Perform four loosening techniques from the Wu family Chi Kung/Nei Kung set.
- Perform balance and weight separation techniques with ‘Tai Chi walking’.
- Begin to experience the benefits to physical health and mental wellbeing that practice brings.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suitable for absolute beginners as well as those unfamiliar to this style of Tai Chi Chuan.
You will need to be able to follow verbal instructions, observe and copy physical movements and use spatial awareness within a group.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught by detailed demonstration and verbal instruction followed by active participation then feedback and guidance. Practice outside class is recommended to absorb what is taught and to feel the benefits that it brings.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Loose, comfortable clothing is best.
