What is the course about?

You will be able to practice and improve your basic Tap skills and increase your vocabulary of steps and sequences. From this you will gain a greater understanding of rhythm, tempo and syncopation. You will also learn and perform a fun and interesting routine.

What will we cover?

You will learn and experiment with classic American steps including paddle-and-rolls, flaps, riffs and ripples.
Together we will discover how to put steps together to make up a routine and perform as a group. All students will
be encouraged to perform steps and sequences solo. The routine will be filmed at the end of the course and shared through a video sharing website.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Perform all the basic double and treble steps.
Perform the basic American time steps and several classic time steps.
Understand different dance tempos.
Perform a fun routine.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is ideal for students who have completed the beginners course or have a basic knowledge of Tap.

In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

As a group and individually.

HEALTH CHECK
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.

As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

It is essential to have good shoes and Tap shoes are necessary for this class. Having the correct shoes can really improve your technique and give you a much better feeling for the style of dance. The Tap shoes should be fitted with tap plates using screw fittings (no rivets). Specialised stockists such as Gamba, Freed and Dancia, which have outlets in and around Covent Garden can provide appropriate footwear. Clothing should be comfortable and loose.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Continue with improvers or speak to the tutor about an intermediate class.
