What is the course about?

You will look at the spectrum of trauma and how these impact on the individual, and society. You will learn to differentiate between trauma and complex trauma and their psychobiological effects and how they might be treated,.

What will we cover?

Types of Trauma, Complex (interpersonal) Trauma, Neurobiological and psychosocial effects, long term effect such as post traumatic stress disorder, complex traumatic stress disorder, developmental traumatic stress disorder, how to manage and treat such impacts and post traumatic growth.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

•Identify the subtle and more obvious features of trauma
• Describe the impact of trauma and its long term effects
• Describe the range of treatment models leading to post-traumatic growth.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Anyone with interest in topic, although would appeal most to anyone working in health or mental health setting, or counselling.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Lectures, small group work.
