What is the course about?

Develop your ukulele technique, explore the chord theory, and learn how to apply these to your playing.

What will we cover?

You will learn new techniques on the ukulele, and new songs, chord theory and split strokes. Perhaps we can persuade you to perform as a group at the end of the course?

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- play new chord patterns
- improve your picking technique
- learn split strokes
- apply this knowledge to tunes we will learn on the course, and further tunes of your choice.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Ideal for graduates of ukulele 1, and new students who consider yourself a novice player.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The tutor will give practical demonstrations of the technique taught in each session. You will learn and practice in a group lesson and the tutor will give advice and feedback to individuals and to the group.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring your own ukulele, any colour welcome. All course materials will be supplied for class and available in the google classroom.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Ukulele 3.

Martin Wheatley

Martin Wheatley has enjoyed a varied career playing and teaching all sorts of fretted instruments: guitar, banjos of all sorts, mandolin and ukulele. His interest in the ukulele started long before the current wave of popularity through a love of vintage Hawaiian music. You can watch him performing on the ukulele on Youtube but he is as interested in the value and joy of the instrument for complete novices as he is in pushing technical boundaries. His performing career has been spent playing old-style jazz (pre-WW2) with occasional forays into the worlds of rock (Bryan Ferry) and classical music (Royal Liverpool Philharmonic). He has a B.A. from Colchester, an M.A. from University College London and a houseful of ukuleles.
