What is the course about?

Extended by popular demand into twice its original length, we will explore through practical exercises the basic methodology of the leading voice practitioner Patsy Rodenburg in these two three-hour workshops delivered in the college.

What will we cover?

The different techniques that Patsy Rodenburg advocates in breath, phonation, articulation, pitch and presence.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Embody efficient posture and alignment.
Demonstrate a greater physical and vocal presence.
Use muscles of articulation to speak with precision and freedom.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Ideally you will have a fundamental knowledge of the methodology of Patsy Rodenburg, but open to anyone wishing to explore Voice at a more intensive level.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You should read one of Patsy Rodenburg's books ahead of time such as The Right to Speak or 'Presence'.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Bring a small hand mirror and notepad and pen.

Lloyd Wylde

Lloyd Wylde is a former actor and now Voice Coach trained at LAMDA and at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. She has worked for the Education Department at the National Theatre, Historic Palaces, Wellcome Trust and Soho Theatre, at several drama schools, and for the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as independent work. At City Lit she has taught Actor's Voice: beginners and improvers, Communicate with confidence through voice and body language, Self-presentation skills for business people (with Nikki Kelly), Use your voice assertively, and on the Foundation Drama and Acting Diploma courses. Having worked at City Lit since 2015, Lloyd enjoys the diverse range of students that come to City Lit keen to learn. She aims to help all students achieve their potential, find and harness the power of their voice, all within a safe and fun environment. Voice is in the body and is an expression of your personality and presence. Lloyd aims to help you find out what your strength is and help yourself counter the things that might get in the way. Come and play with your voice and see what you can discover.
