Welsh 5: clwb darllen / reading club

What is the course about?

This reading club is for experienced learners of Welsh (i.e. who have been studying Welsh for at least 4 years). It will involve reading aloud in Welsh and discussing, which will help consolidate grammar patterns learnt on City Lit Welsh courses, as well as broadening vocabulary, pronunciation, and intonation of whole phrases.

What will we cover?

Students will be continuing ‘O law i law’ by T. Rowland Hughes.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

have a wider vocabulary.
have improved pronunciation.
have had an introduction to Welsh literature.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Reading material used on this course is at CEFR: C1.

Choose a level 5 course if you can:

- follow and take part in complex conversations between native speakers in group discussion and debates, including those on abstract and unfamiliar topics,
- understand a wide range of recorded and broadcast audio material, including some non-standard usage,
- identify finer points of detail including implicit attitudes and relationships between native speakers.
- give a clear, well-structured presentation on a complex subject in your area of work, study, or special interest.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

- Preparation for each class: You will have to read one chapter prior to the class to familiarise yourself with the text.
- Work in class: You will look at the chapter read in more details (vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar…) with the tutor and/or the other students through pair and small group discussion.

Students will need a copy of ‘O law i law’ by T. Rowland Hughes (ISBN 0-86383-703-4).
