What is the course about?

This structured workshop will provide a review of some essential Welsh grammar covered at beginner level.

What will we cover?

- word-order in simple sentences (e.g. the differences between MAE and YW/YDY)
- noun class and adjectives (e.g. y gath fawr, y ci mawr)
- answering YES and NO using forms of the verb TO BE (e.g. ydw, oes, bydda)
- soft mutations (e.g. for marking negative sentences, questions)
- forming the past tense with GWNEUD.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- confidently identify parts of speech in Welsh (such as verbs, adverbs, pronouns and nouns)
- identify which areas of basic grammar you need to continue working on and which you've mastered
- conjugate auxiliary verbs with increased accuracy
- identify and correct errors in word-order
- confidently change a statement into a question.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is suitable if you have completed Welsh Beginners modules 1 and 2 or have equivalent experience (i.e. have been actively studying Welsh for at least 6 months).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Short, accessible grammar demonstrations followed by group work and informal quizzes.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Based on tutor's own material.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

Continue learning Welsh in September. City Lit offers a variety of in-person and online Welsh courses.
