Workplace communication skills: how to get a better job (ESOL entry 3-level 1)

Are you looking for a new or better job? Do you feel nervous in interviews? Would you like to learn the English you need to impress an employer? This course will help you with the language you need to do well in interviews, to feel calm and relaxed. You will work on predicting the types of questions an employer will ask you and you will practise answering them. You will work on your pronunciation including stress and you will role play different situations that take place in an interview.

What is the course about?

This course will help you do well in interviews for all types of jobs. You will work on preparing for interviews. You will learn how to listen well and to predict the types of questions employers will ask you. You will practise answering different types of questions, including working on your pronunciation especially stress. You will work on techniques for remaining calm and showing confidence. By the end of the course, you will be confident you can attend any interview and show the employer the best side of you.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is for entry 3-level 1 ESOL learners i.e. pre-intermediate to intermediate level (B1-B2). It is ideal for anyone who can communicate in basic everyday situations and wants to improve their interview skills.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will learn in a supportive and welcoming environment with an emphasis on your discovering how to do and complete tasks, with guidance from the tutor. You will work on your own and with other students on different tasks so you are always practising important in-demand life and work skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, prioritising, negotiating, collaborating and independence. You will learn in a step by step manner so you can complete challenging tasks in enjoyable and relaxing ways. There will be a lot of role play.
Your tutor will also work with you individually so you know how to improve and how to work in a way that improves your learning. You will need to do work outside the classroom and use Google Classroom to help you.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will need a pen, some lined A4 paper and a file to keep your work in. Your tutor will provide handouts and a code for Google classroom so you can communicate with classmates and access materials, videos etc. online.
