What is the course about?

This course aims to further improve your intermediate French, at a gentle pace. You will build up your confidence by learning the language gradually with the emphasis on speaking and listening. You will increase your fluency and the course will give you a greater insight into the French speaking culture.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

These may vary according to the needs and interests of the group, but we plan to offer the following:

- topics: discussing your interests, recommending a film or book, discussing francophone culture, etc.
- grammar: revision of simple relative pronouns, consolidation of various uses of the past tenses (imperfect / passé composé/pluperfect).

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- have more confidence in your ability to understand and be understood in simple French
- understand the main information and some detailed information of written and aural texts
- describe and recommend a film or a book
- relate a trip or social event
- know more about francophone culture, and discuss it

Please note that the learning outcomes may vary depending on the general progress made by the students.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is suitable for those who have completed French 3 lower at a gentle pace, or anyone with a similar level of knowledge who wishes to extend their knowledge at a gentle pace.
It is also essential that you have some knowledge of basic grammar terminology (e.g. verb, noun, conjugation). It would be helpful if you had knowledge of more intermediate grammar terminology (e.g.subjunctive, conditional and pronouns). Please note this course goes at a slower pace than our standard courses.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This course offers a friendly and relaxed atmosphere which will enable you to learn at your own pace. Your tutor will use a range of teaching strategies to ensure that you gradually build up your confidence in speaking and listening. Throughout the course, you will receive learning tips on how to speak in groups more effectively and independently (without relying on your notes). You will practise listening to spoken language in ways that will maximise your understanding. There will be activities and advice to help you retain vocabulary.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

The course is based on the tutor's own materials. You will be told in class if there are any helpful supplementary materials. If any books are suggested, please try the European Bookshop by selecting 'City Lit' and the language you are studying at this web page or call them at 020 7734 5259. If you state on the website, by phone or in the shop that you are studying with us, you can claim a 10% discount. You might be asked for your student number.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

guaranteed.
