What is the course about?

In this course you’ll work on your listening skills through recordings, videos and exercises to help you focus on the main points of the spoken language. The course will also briefly focus on sounds and pronunciation in order to make you aware of what to expect while listening to Italian native speakers in order to be able to capture more of what they are saying.

This is a live online course. You will need:
- Internet connection. The classes work best with Chrome.
- A computer with microphone and camera is best (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer.
- Earphones/headphones/speakers.
We will contact you with joining instructions before your course starts.

What will we cover?

- Intonation and pronunciation
- Close listening to dialogues and videos
- A mix of different topics from everyday situations to help you cope better in your interactions with Italian speakers.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- Gain confidence in your listening skills
- Be more aware of how Italian is spoken by native speakers
- Better recognise sounds and intonation
- Have a better-trained ear to understand spoken Italian more easily.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is intended for lower intermediate students of Italian. For City Lit students, that will mean students at 2 Lower or 2 Upper. You should have studied Italian for at least a year. Please note that this is a listening skills course, so the focus will be on listening skills rather than grammar or vocabulary.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material. Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no additional costs or texts.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

If you are not already enrolled on one of our mainstream Italian courses, the tutor would be happy to advise you on your level.
