What is the course about?

This course will give you the chance to practise and consolidate some of the vocabulary and grammar structures learned at elementary and lower intermediate level through a variety of speaking and listening activities. The extra practice will help you feel more confident about using Italian yourself and understanding native speakers.

What will we cover?

Topics: holidays and past events

- Grammar: Difference between "passato prossimo" and "imperfetto"

- talk about future plans (the future tense).

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- talk about past events using both perfect and imperfect tenses
- talk about holiday plans using the future tense
- the tutor will also decide what areas should be covered based on learners' needs.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is aimed at students who have studied the language for about two to three years recently or have an equivalent level of the language. Suitable if you have completed Italian 2: practise and consolidate module 2.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Anna Giuffria

Anna was drawn to London in her adolescence, by her love of English language and culture. She received a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and Modern Languages Teaching Certificate from Westminster College in 1996 and her Postgraduate diploma in Higher Education from Goldsmith University, in 1999. In 1997, she started teaching Italian at the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martin, before moving to the London School of Economics, in 1999, where she is still working as a teacher and as a coordinator of Italian language. She started teaching adults at the City Lit in 1998, where she began to appreciate working with a wide range of students of various ages and backgrounds. She enjoys the social aspect and human contact of education, always reflected in her approach to teaching. In her classes she encourages interaction among students, which is the foundation of learning a language as she has experienced, whilst learning French a Spanish. Anna also taught Italian at the Courtauld Institute of Art between 2009 and 2019.
