What is the course about?

Take the next step in your Welsh learning journey with our engaging in-person Welsh courses! Our friendly and experienced tutors will guide you through interactive lessons designed to build confidence in speaking, reading, and understanding Welsh. Connect with fellow learners and take the first step toward becoming a new Welsh speaker. Dewch i ymuno â ni! (Come and join us!).

What will we cover?

The aim of this course is to give students the opportunity to practise using Welsh in a wider range of contexts and for a wider range of purposes; to build on their foundational grammatical and communicative abilities in the language; and to promote interest in and awareness of the language and its culture today.

Suitable if you have recently completed Welsh beginners: module 2 are have equivalent experience with the
language

Topics will include expressing opinions, organising events, travel, family and talking about future plans.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- confidently produce sentences in the present, past and future
- express and ask for personal opinions
- talk about wishes, future plans and ambitions.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students should have completed Welsh Beginners, Module 1 and 2 or have equivalent experience (i.e. have studied Welsh for at least 6 months recently). You should be familiar with the basic word order of Welsh and know how to give and ask for simple personal information about the "here and now".

If you are a near-beginner or have previous experience with Welsh (such as living or working in Wales or having studied the language at GCSE level but not used it since) then this course is the perfect place to reconnect with the language. If you need further advice or guidance on deciding whether this course is the right level for you, please email the Non-Romance Languages team: languages@citylit.ac.uk. For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart, using the link at the top of this page. You can also find the chart at the start of the languages section in our course guide. You will also need to be able to respond to simple instructions and read course documents in English and be at ease with the use of number for daily activities (e.g using money, telling the time, etc).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Our courses are characterised by spoken interaction and communication. Typical activities include pair work, group work, role plays and games. A range of resources will be used to support your learning including presentations, hand-outs, and audio-visual material.
Homework is highly recommended to consolidate learning.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

All resources will be provided by the tutor in class and via Google Classroom.
