City Lit supports Tinnitus Week
Tinnitus Week is taking place this week from 7-13 February and we are supporting the British Tinnitus Association in their ongoing search for a cure and their continued support for those with tinnitus.
Check the BTA website throughout the week for updates, where they will be sharing tinnitus stories, encouraging you to share yours, launching a new report and more.
If you or someone you know, need support or information about tinnitus, The British Tinnitus Association has a wide range of information that can help.
There are many things that aggravate tinnitus, such as stress and anxiety, exposure to loud noise, wax blocking the ear. If you have difficulty hearing, then it may help to wear a hearing aid which will bring in more outside sounds to help reduce awareness of the internal noises as well as alleviate the stress of trying to hear. Or try listening to other pleasant sounds which can help to distract from the tinnitus – there are apps and equipment that may help.
Manage your tinnitus
To find out more, come along to City Lit’s online course ‘Manage your tinnitus’ in May 2022.
The course is aimed at those with tinnitus who would like to understand it better and learn about a range of techniques and strategies that can help to manage it. This course will be inclusive for those with a hearing loss.
Centre for Deaf Education
City Lit has provided support for deaf people at its heart right from our establishment, in 1919. Some of the first courses ever offered by City Lit were lipreading classes for deafened soldiers returning from World War I. Over the years, we have grown to become an internationally-renowned centre of a wide range of provision - it is the largest centre of its kind in Europe. Our staff is a mixed group of deaf and hearing professionals; all highly skilled in their own areas of specialist expertise. Join us on Saturday 23 April as we celebrate Deaf Day 2022 at City Lit.
