Beginners 3 is the perfect continuation for those who have some metal jewellery making experience and would like to expand on their basic metal working skills by learning wax carving and casting. Wax carving lends itself very well to creating organic and fluid forms that can’t be made with sheet and wire. There will be set projects as well as the opportunity to experiment and develop your own designs.

From beginners to experienced jewellers, come and practise making metal jewellery to your own designs, whether you're picking up the basics of cutting, forming and texturing, or taking your designs to the next level with complex approaches such as chain-making.

Carve, model and experiment with jewellers wax; learn about the lost wax casting process, outsourcing, and how components and multiples are made, relevant to jewellery making and production. There will also be an introduction to low-fi casting methods: Delft-Clay (sand casting) and cuttlefish bone.

Learn how to etch images onto metal using resists and acid. This course will introduce you to the basic techniqes of etching and photo-etching and its application for jewellery.

Learn all the basics of metal jewellery work by making a range of sample pieces in copper and a finished jewellery piece of your own design. You will be shown how to buy silver so you can take home at least one wearable piece.
