The news is simplified by the tutor for teaching purposes by removing difficult words, phrases and structures. (The difficulty of the news will be adjusted by the tutor after the first session's assessment.).

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

After learning the news stories, the teacher will guide students to listen, speak, discuss and debate news stories using new words and frequently used Chinese sentence structures.
This course will focus on speaking, presentation, improving fluency, not focusing on academic writing. You will gain:
Development of vocabulary
Enhancement of fluency
Consolidation of advanced grammatical structures.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Suitable if you have studied Chinese part-time for at least 6-7 years and have been self-learning and using Chinese frequently in life or work you can join this course. Students should be able to read Chinese characters and have learned comprehensive Chinese grammar.

Here is an example of the news reflecting the difficulty of the material if you want to test your level. If you can read and understand most of it (65% or more), you should benefit from this course. If you find the news too hard for you to read and understand, it is recommended you try a lower level.
