What is the course about?

Come and explore several popular carols and join with others singing them. We’ll cover several aspects of each carol including the tricky musical corners, making the most of the words, technical tips to improve your quality of sound and simply enjoying singing them in company.

What will we cover?

- several popular carols and some lesser known pieces
- the tricky musical corners of the pieces so you can sing along in confidence.
- technical guidance to improve your sound quality
- bringing the text to life.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

- understand the vocal features needed to sing a carol successfully
- sing the selected carols with more confidence and ease
- express the words of the carols with more clarity and poise.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a mixed ability course. Some prior knowledge of singing is helpful but not essential, and we’ll be singing the carols in various formats so you can select the appropriate part if you know your voice type, or sing the ‘tune’ as you prefer.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

This is a live, in person course. The session will begin with a warm-up to help ease you into the sound-world and will continue with practical activity guided by the tutor.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Materials for the course will be provided on the day.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

You may wish to join our regular programme of singing classes which you can find listed here in our blog Choosing a singing class at City lit .
If you are unsure which course is best for you, please contact the music department for more guidance at music@citylit.ac.uk.
