Develop your clarinet playing further in this course. Your tutor will guide you through techical and theoretical clarinet studies as well as introduce you to solo playing and music interpretation. A range of genres will be covered from classical to Jazz and popular styles, including some fun duets. For students who have at least one year of playing experience.
What will we cover?
The course covers more advanced aspects of clarinet technique up to around Grade 2 standard - Breathing, articulation, fingering, tone etc. - Music notation, including more complex rhythmic patterns - beginning to play Grade 2 standard repertoire - Individual repertoire as advised by the tutor.
What will I achieve? By the end of this course you should be able to...
- Demonstrate key aspects of clarinet technique at an elementary level - Sight-read music at a basic level - Have greater confidence in simple improvisation - Play in an ensemble.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
You should have had at least one year's playing experience and should be at ease with note-reading at Grade 2 standard and some very simple improvisation. You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and engage in class discussions.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
Classes will comprise tutor explanation and demonstration, group playing along with the tutor and individual playing. Sessions will also include class discussion, aural skills and theoretical study. To make progress you will need to practise regularly outside class (ideally at least 20 minutes on least 5 days per week).
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
