What is the course about?
This class is dedicated to exploring the finer details of drypoint printmaking. Develop imagery using specialist tools such as drypoint needles and roulettes to create a range of line and tone. Compare traditional and contemporary materials and techniques using high quality materials such as copper plates and 100% cotton paper to achieve optimum results. Create a variety of printed effects using different inking and wiping techniques.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...
Use a range of traditional and contemporary techniques to make, draw, ink and print a drypoint plate.
Select the materials and tools suitable for individual needs.
Print multiple impressions to explore a range of inking and wiping effects.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This course is geared towards intermediate and advanced students.
Knowledge of intaglio techniques, including inking, wiping and printing on the etching press is essential.
Basic drawing skills are preferable.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
A talk on artists will be presented and examples of work will be shown and discussed.
There will be practical demonstrations followed by practical application. Small class numbers allow for plenty of supported one-to-one guidance and ample time for press access for printing application.
When I've finished, what course can I do next?
You may wish to continue to explore Intaglio processes by enrolling onto the 'Contemporary printmaking studio' courses or to expand your practice with a course such as experimental etching. Your tutor can advise.
Anne-Marie studied Fine Art at Epsom School of Art & Design and Advanced Printmaking at Central Saint Martin’s School of Art & Design. She has been working with printmaking, drawing, watercolour and mixed media since 1976 and has been involved in art education since 1987 at City Lit College of Adult Education, Central Saint Martin’s School of Art & Design, Bath Spa University School of Art & Design, Norwich School of Art & Design, Havering college of Further & Higher Education, V & A Museum Education department (printmaking workshops,) Morley College of Adult Education. Anne-Marie has exhibited nationally including the Hayward Gallery, Royal Academy of Arts, Battersea Arts Centre and internationally at Brooklyn Art Library USA, RAMOMA (Museum of Modern Art Nairobi Kenya,). Publications: Mandy Bonnell & Stephen Mumberson ‘Printmaking on a Budget’; Jane Stobbard ‘Drawing Matters’; Jackie Newell & Dee Whittington ‘Monoprinting’ Teaching forms an integral part of Anne-Marie’s art practice with both often acting as a stimulus for the other.
