What is the course about?

What happens if there is an accident or someone complains of chest pains….do you know how to help them?

It could happen at any time – at work, on the street or even at home. Emergency First Aid at Work will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to assist someone until the emergency services arrive. This is more than just a training course; you may help in saving someone's life.

This course qualifies you to give Emergency First Aid (to adults) at home or in the workplace, where there is a low risk or less than 100 employees. It is also ideal for self-employed Complementary Therapists or Exercise Professionals. The qualification is awarded by Qualsafe, a leading awarding body in Health & Safety training and is valid for 3 years. The HSE (Health & Safety Executive) recommends that you have refresher training every year, however this is not compulsory.

What will we cover?

- The role of the first aider
- Assessing an emergency situation
- How to administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure); choking; wounded; suffering from shock
- How to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:
(a) understand the role of the first-aider with reference to:
(i) the importance of preventing cross-infection
(ii) the need for recording incidents and actions
(iii) use of available equipment
(b) assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
(c) administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
(d) administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
(e) administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
(f) administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
(g) administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
(h) provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a Level 2 Award certified by Qualsafe.

The course is at basic level but involves a multiple choice written exam. No previous knowledge is needed to join the course but an interest in First Aid is helpful. Learners should be able to read and listen to information, summarise and re-present it clearly in a variety of formats.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Lecture, question and answer, small group and pair work when possible. Demonstration and Practice. Videos, OHP, and hand-outs. Assessment record completed throughout the day.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

A course manual and the exam fee is included in the price of the course.

Please bring photographic proof of identity.
