What is the course about?
On this course you will understand the difference between an experimental digital film and a conventional narrative. On this practical course you will learn how to create and edit experimental films that challenge rather than cater to the expectations of the audience. You will explore a variety of medium in different formats to create engaging digital films that are innovative in both form and content.
Please note that the editing software taught on this course will be Final Cut Pro X. If you prefer you are welcome to use Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve which, though not taught, will be supported in the course.

What will I achieve?

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
This is designed as an introductory course but is suitable for any level. No previous film making experience is required but you should have basic computer experience including, using a keyboard and mouse, opening applications, saving and retrieving files.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, tutorials, group and individual assistance and hand-outs. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Film and Animation.
We use Google Classroom E-learning platform which will store all tasks, notes and resources. You will be sent an email with the necessary information and will need to login into your Google classroom before each sessions starts.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
You would be expected to have your own camera to capture video and the editing software Final Cut Pro X (or Da Vinci or Premiere Pro) downloaded on your computer at the start of this online course. It would be useful to bring a memory stick or portable hard drive to back up your work.

Teaching is an integral part of her practice. Her flexible approach encourages connection between conception, making and materials, recognising spontaneity and liberation to be at the ‘beating heart’ of practice and pedagogy.
